Eye Disease Diagnosis and Management

Dr Romie Dhaliwal
Eye Exams Are the Foundation of Healthy Vision. Eye exams do much more than update your glasses or contact lens prescription — they are essential to understanding and protecting your overall eye health.
As we age, our eyes naturally change, and those changes can increase the risk of developing eye diseases and vision conditions that may not show symptoms right away. Without regular exams, many of these issues can quietly progress before you notice a problem.

At Academy Optical, we believe proactive eye care is a key part of your total health. That’s why we use advanced technology and a personalized approach to detect concerns early — before they impact your vision or quality of life.

Our team is here to care for you and your family. Book an eye exam today and take a deeper look into your eye health.

How We Check for Eye Disease & Conditions

Dr Romie Dhaliwal
Preventative eye care is about catching problems early. Many eye diseases develop with little to no warning signs, which is why a comprehensive exam goes far beyond reading letters on a chart.

At Academy Optical, we use modern diagnostic tools to get a complete picture of your eye health, including:

  • OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) – Provides detailed cross-sectional images of the retina and optic nerve to help detect glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and more.
  • Virtual Visual Field Testing – Measures your peripheral (side) vision and helps uncover early signs of glaucoma, neurological conditions, and retinal issues.
  • Non-Contact Tonometry – Gently measures your eye pressure (IOP), an important screening tool for glaucoma.
  • Digital Retinal Imaging – Captures high-resolution images of the back of your eye to monitor the retina, blood vessels, and optic nerve over time.

These technologies allow us to track subtle changes and manage your eye health with precision.

Your risk for eye disease depends on many factors, including age, general health, family history, lifestyle, and visual demands. During your exam, we take all of this into account and tailor our recommendations specifically for you.

At the end of your visit, we’ll review our findings, answer your questions, and create a care plan to support your vision. Treatment may include prescription lenses, specialty coatings, dry eye therapy, medications, lifestyle adjustments, referrals, or surgical co-management when needed.
