Dry Eye Care: Restore Comfort to Your Vision

Are Your Eyes Feeling Dry, Irritated, or Tired?

At Academy Optical, we know how important eye comfort is to your daily life. Your eyes work hard for you — from screens and driving to reading and caring for your family — and when dry eye symptoms appear, even simple tasks can feel exhausting.

Burning, redness, watering, grittiness, fluctuating vision, and light sensitivity are all common signs of dry eye disease. Rather than masking symptoms, we focus on treating the root cause.

Our personalized dry eye programs are designed to restore comfort, improve vision quality, and help you get back to enjoying the moments that matter most.

Book your dry eye assessment today and discover how a comprehensive approach can bring lasting relief.

Why Your Tears Matter

Your tear film plays a vital role in keeping your eyes healthy, comfortable, and clear. It’s made up of three essential layers that work together:

  • Mucus Layer – Helps the tears spread evenly and stick to the surface of the eye.
  • Aqueous (Water) Layer – Hydrates, nourishes, and washes away debris.
  • Oil (Lipid) Layer – Seals in moisture and prevents tears from evaporating too quickly.

When one or more of these layers isn’t functioning properly, dry eye develops. Many factors can contribute, including aging, hormones, medications, autoimmune conditions, allergies, screen use, contact lens wear, and environmental exposure.

Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD): A Leading Cause of Dry Eye
Dry eye generally falls into two categories:

  • Aqueous-deficient dry eye – when the eyes don’t produce enough watery tears.
  • Evaporative dry eye – when tears evaporate too quickly due to poor oil quality.

The most common form is evaporative dry eye, often caused by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD).

Your meibomian glands line the edges of your eyelids and release oils that keep tears from evaporating. When these glands become blocked or inflamed, the tear film loses stability, leading to dryness, irritation, and blurry vision.

MGD is chronic but manageable — and with proper treatment, we can improve gland function and eye comfort long-term.

How Academy Optical Helps Dry Eye

Relief starts with understanding what’s really happening on the surface of your eyes.

During a dry eye evaluation, we assess:

  • Tear quality and quantity
  • Meibomian gland health
  • Inflammation levels
  • Blink patterns
  • Lid margins and ocular surface health
  • Your medical history, medications, and lifestyle

Because dry eye can contribute to infections, corneal damage, and fluctuating vision, we often recommend a structured treatment program rather than a single visit.

Our goal is to restore healthy tears, protect your eyes, and keep symptoms from returning.

Advanced Dry Eye Treatments at Academy Optical

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy
IPL is a powerful, non-invasive treatment used to improve meibomian gland function. It works by delivering gentle pulses of light to the eyelids and surrounding skin, helping to reduce inflammation and melt away gland blockages.

At Academy Optical, we use InMode Lumecca IPL, which delivers advanced, controlled energy to safely warm the eyelids and improve oil flow. This helps stabilize your tear film and reduce chronic dry eye symptoms over time.

Many patients notice clearer vision, less irritation, and improved comfort after a series of treatments.

Radiofrequency (RF) Therapy
Radiofrequency therapy has long been used in aesthetics, and it’s also highly effective for dry eye care.

InMode RF uses gentle energy waves to heat deeper eyelid tissue, encouraging blocked oils to liquefy and flow more easily from the meibomian glands. This improves the lipid layer of your tears and helps prevent evaporation.

RF treatments are relaxing, safe, and help rejuvenate gland function while supporting overall eyelid health.

Meibomian Gland Expression
Sometimes the simplest step makes a big difference. Meibomian gland expression involves gently massaging and clearing blocked glands along the eyelids. This helps stimulate healthy oil production and removes thickened, stagnant secretions that contribute to dry eye.

It’s often combined with IPL or RF therapy to maximize results and restore comfort more quickly.
